Both are done through the laparoscope. Myolysis involves inserting needles through which electrical current is passed, thus "cooking" the fibroid and causing ti to shrink. Cryomyolysis is similar, but instead of cooking the fibriod, a probe with liquid nitrogen is inserted to freeze the fibriod. Both theoreticlly knock off the blood supply so the fibriod shrinks. Myolysis is fairly widely available ( I do myolysis in carefully selected patients), but cryomyolysis is just being described. Any procedure that spares the uterus carries with it the risk of recurrent fibriods. Also, at this time, both myolysis and cryomyolysis are not being recommended for use in women who may want to have babies; we don't know what cooking or frezing does to the uterus. Talk to your doctor about your particular situation.
