Dear Mike and Pam,,

I did a search on Yahoo and this is the only infomation I came up with. Hope it helps till you get a better answer.

By the way I had shingles many years ago and it is VERY painful...Runs it's course and goes away. There is a cream that starts with Z that they use ask your doctor about it's safety.

Pam, I was told it's a virus of the nerve endings and not much is known about why anyone gets it...Have you talked to your OBGYN about it?

Can shingles harm the fetus? Shingles (herpes zoster) is an infection caused by a limited reactivation of the chickenpox virus, usually many years after the person had chickenpox. It causes painful, localized clusters of blisters. Doctors are uncertain as to whether shingles during pregnancy can cause birth defects on rare occasions. However, experts believe it is unlikely. Shingles is uncommon during pregnancy, so few pregnant women with the disease have been studied.
