My sister is having a problem, and I have no idea what is wrong with her. Two years ago, 2 months in a row, she had acute flank and pelvic pain, that sent her to the ER. She did have her period at the time, each time, but even though she had crampy type pain, they felt it was a kidney stone. IVP was negative, so it was assumed she passed the stone. Demerol shot was given once, each time. Pain didn't return, after each shot. No further instances for two years. Then in January of this year, she began having severe pelvic pain, during her periods, and low back pain, for a few days,towards the end of the period. Motrin helps, but doesn't alleviate it. She also complains of rectal pain and pressure, even when no need for a bowel movement. She is 45 years old, began menstruating at the age of 16, had one pregnancy 11 years ago. Had a tubal ligation, shortly after her child was born. She has stated she has had a few hot flashes, several months ago, but nothing since. Also she has experienced stress incontinency at times. She also has periodic loose stools, associated with her periods, and with certains foods, not agreeing with her. Also complains of heavy bleeding with periods, but they are regular. During the past year, mid cycle she had some vaginal bleeding twice, a few months a part. I have stage IV endometriosis. Some of her symptoms are similiar, but where my symptoms have always been there since menarche, and have slowly progressed, hers just sort of popped up. I figure her problems could be endo, a cyst, fibroids, menopause or IBS, but really these are just guesses. She did have a gyn exam with digital rectal examination, that the nurse practitioner said,seemed normal. She is having an US in a few weeks. Any suggestions of what could be going on with her, and what else should be done? Thanks for your help. Joanne
