does the pill lose effectiveness?From: michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 7 May 1997 14:20:06 -0500 (CDT)
Can the pill lose it's effectiveness? I've taken ortho-cyclen (at the same time each night) for more than a year now, as well as one year another time prior. I've been very happy with this method. However, at my last yearly exam, my doctor suggested I could still be ovulating. I had told her that I frequently experience "spotting" mid-cycle. She suggested this was a sign of ovulation and that I could be ovulating. (has anyone heard of this?) I have since taken my basal temperature, following proper procedures, but my temperature is ALL OVER the charts. The mucus test... I see some variation but it is very slight. I don't know of any other tests to try. I have been very happy with ortho-cyclen and would prefer not to change birth control methods. But how do I know that it is still working? Is it common/possible for a pill to lose it's effectiveness?
