I think preconception visits are invaluable. It's a time to review both your past history, as well as that of your family and your partner's, looking for conditions that may impact your future children. It'a wonderful opportunity to make sure you are living a healthy life and to screen you for immunity to infections like rubella and varicella (chickenpox) and toxoplasmosis (important if you have cats). Call your doctor's office back and insist on a visit. In the meantime, start taking Folate (folic acid) supplements -- about 400 - 800 micrograms daily. Good luck in your quest for conception.
