Bartholyn's Cyst/AbcessFrom: DS (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Mar 1997 12:29:30 -0600 (CST)
Last year I had a marsupilization for a Bartholyn's Abcess under general anesthesia in the OR. Within 3 weeks the abcess returned. Since this area was already weekend by the marsuplization incision, it opened and drained without having to return to the OR. My OB/GYN put me on long term antibotics to try to keep the abcess from returning. After the marsupilization, and again after the second occurance, the doctor "packed" the area hoping it would heal from the inside out, eliminating the sack. My doctor told me the sack was very large and went quite far inside. I have gone off the antibotic twice and each time, the abcess has returned. I was told by my OB/GYN that it is very rare for this to continue to reoccur. He said he would search to see if he could find additional information on reoccuring cysts/abcesses. Does anyone have additional information that I can pass along to him? I am currently suffering from this again. I don't want to continue to take the antibotics, but know of no other choice at the moment. Looking forward to some assistance! Thanks.
