New Fibroid Treatment?

I read a short article in our local paper this week about a new, non-invasive treatment for fibroids which may provide some women with an alternative to a hysterectomy.

The embolization technique was described by a Dr. Scott Goodwin (UCLA) at a medical conference in Washington, D.C. and involves a 1/4" incision and uses a catheter to cut off blood flow to the fibroid, leaving the uterus in place.

I don't currently have a problem with fibroids, but since it seems to be very common, I wanted to seek the opinion of our experts here...is this the wave of the future, or possibly something that's already being used, or a procedure that needs further study?

Thanks!
