Bartholin cysts are routinely benign. There are rare, repeat, rare cases in the literature about malignant transformation of a Bartholin's cyst. If the cyst is not causing any problems, they should be left alone. If they cause pain, enlarge to a point where they cause pain, become infected (Bartholin abscess) or recurrently drain and reform, it should be operated upon. The most common surgical procedure for this problem is a "marsupialization" (creation of pouch as in kangaroos being marsupials) of the Bartholin abscess/cyst.

I wish your friend well with her Bartholin cyst. The other information you provided was welcome (as always) but was not necessary in this particular case.
