PCOS: 1500mg MetforminFrom: Lisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 19 Jun 2009 02:16:09 -0500 (CDT)
Hello everyone, I'm a 20 year old female student, was diagnosed with PCOS back in 2006, and the gynecologist at first put me on Diabex-XR (Metformin Hydrochloride, from Pharmacology lectures, XR is extended release right?). For the first 6 months of 2007, the dose was 1000mg, but I was still not menstruating =___=. Thereafter, the specialist put me on 1500mg, and also prescribed me with microgynon 20 (which is essentially The Pill). Even with the increase in metformin dosage, I have yet to have my periods but I believe I am not as hyperglycaemic as I was before. My questions, if they could kindly be answered (!), are: - How long should I expect to stay on Metformin even though my blood glucose concentrations have decreased dramatically (also lost about 9kgs!)? - Should I take the Pill monthly, or alternate between 1 or 2 months? The gynecologist didn't give me any specific guidelines and said on the last visit to her clinic back in 2008 that I needn't visit her again if I menstruated after taking the Pill... Please advise me on what I should do; your guide will be greatly appreciated!!
