UROGYNECOLOGY: UTIFrom: Joc (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 20 May 2009 12:54:34 -0500 (CDT)
I was diagnosed with a UTI beginning of April, I had had the same symptoms two years prior that just resolved on their own (at the time I didn't realize I had a UTI). The UTI in April occurred after sexual intimacy, and I was treated with antibiotics. I felt fine for a few days after finishing the antibiotic course but then I went to use my vibrator and the symptoms were back the next day. I went back to the Dr. and was put on a second course of antibiotics (this was a weeklong course), while on the antibiotics I used my vibrator and the next day had the same UTI symptoms (urgency to urinate even after just finishing urinating). Well anyway after finishing the week long antibiotic course I used my vibrator again. This time I took precautions, I cleansed myself the vibrator, I even put a condom on the vibrator, and after I was finished I went to bathroom and urinated. I am not sure if I am still having symptoms of a UTI, at this point I am pretty paranoid about reinfection so I'm not sure if I am just hyperaware of any little twinge. I am taking cranberry pills everyday and drinking lots of water but sometimes after urinating I feel the same urgency to urinate but it doesn't stay very long. I had gone back to the Dr. after all of this for a physical including bloodwork and urinalysis and I still have leukocytes and a small amount of bacteria still in it. My bloodwork/urinalysis otherwise was normal. My question is can you get reinfected with a UTI while on antibiotics for a UTI? Or was my symptom after using my vibrator possibly just irritation to an already irritated urethra? Also how many courses of antibiotics is too much? Am I running the risk of creating a super-bug if I request another course of antibiotics? Could something more serious be occuring with me?
