CHRONICPAIN: At loss for a what could cause this lower abdominal pain. From: lily07 (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 20 Feb 2009 22:50:24 -0600 (CST)
To Whom it may concern, My situation began about 4 weeks ago, when I thought I had a urinary tract infection. It was painful to urinate and I was having some abdominal pain. It was very uncomforitable to sleep at night. I have to try to find a position that places light pressure on my lower abdomen, so I could sleep. Since I do not have medical insurance and I normally have a high pain tolerance, I was not in a rush to go to the doctor. I talked to someone I knew who had a UTI before and the symptoms sounded the same, except that I was having stomach pains after eating. I though maybe I was different. They had told me that they were instructed to take cranberry pills and drink cranberry juice. I bought cranberry juice and drank that for about a week and a half, until a few days after the burning sensation was gone during urination. During this time I started my period. It was a bit unusual. Not as heavy as normal nor did it last as long as it normally does. To me the blood also seemed a little brighter in color. I though it could be due to stress that I was under at that time. As for the other symptoms, it seemed that the lower abdominal pains would continue along with a stomach pain below the ribs accompanied by heart burn. The abdominal pains were sharp and throbbing. They are/were nauseating. The pains tend to come and go. While the stomach pains were mainly after eating and when going to bed at night. I wasn't sure if the two were related or not. I recently brought myself to the conclusion of seeing a physician at a medical clinic. There they performed a urine test which came back negative for a urinary tract infection. They also performed a pelvic exam. The results were also negative. Seeing as though I do not have intercourse, they didn't do a Pregnancy test. They suggested that because the stomach pain that was accompanied by heart burn, they recommended Prilosec. They seemed to think it was a result of stomach acid. As for the lower abdominal pain the pains are still there, but not as persistent and since I have started my period again. However I am still in pain and at loss of what it could possibly be as well as the physician who treated me. I would like to avoid doing a lot of tests if possible, because I don't have medical insurance. Does anyone have any suggestions of what this could be a result of? Thanks for your time!!!
