GYNECOLOGIC: PT for pelvic muscle atrophy??From: 24 with issues (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 22 Jan 2009 21:06:17 -0600 (CST)
I saw a gyn today about my concerns, and I was right. I have a rectocele and prolapse... at 24... and I've never even been pregnant. :( She said the only definitive treatment is surgery, and because of the nature of my problem, she didn't suspect that pessaries would be of much use (but we're going to try anyway). She ordered some MRIs, and she also strongly recommended I go to physical therapy for pelvic muscle atrophy. Um.... what exactly would that entail?? I'm a little squeamish about bearing my privates to strangers, and I'm even more squeamish about what might occur at these sessions. Most of the pelvic PT information I'm finding online is for IC or painful intercourse... basically spasms, which is the opposite of my problem. Please explain pelvic PT for me. What would they do or have me do to counter the fact that I'm all atrophied down there? I'll do it if I can understand it and if I'm sure it will help. Otherwise... um.. no thanks. Thanks for your help. :P
