Re: MENORRHAGIA: Menstrual bleeding non stop since 2001From: Toni (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 29 Dec 2008 14:50:03 -0600 (CST)
Dear Melissa, Two suggestions for you: fibroids, or von Willebrand's disease. I had very similar problems & suffered for 7 years also b4 finding a wonderful doctor who finally helped me. Fibroids can be found by a vaginal ultrasound - not a terribly fun test but quick & painless. Even the tiniest fibroid can cause massive bleeding if it's in just the wrong place. Biggest thing tho is, get checked for von Willebrands - it is a bleeding disorder that I've learned is overlooked SOOO often by gyns. It causes my blood to take too long to clot, therefore every month was an extended nightmare. All it takes is a blood test to diagnose it, but it's a special blood test - it requires quite a few vials & two weeks (in my part of the country anyway) to get results. Too many gyns don't ever think to test for this, and women wind up having hysterectomies when a blood disorder is to blame! Best of luck to you...
