Much to my frustration I find that in the UK I am unlikely to be offered hysteroscopic ablation combined with hysteroscopic sterilisation, which would be my first choice if I could afford it privately and/or it was offered on the NHS.

So I am now having to think about contraception after ablation therapy - and I am really running out of ideas - anyone else got some?

My contraception history - the pill: can't use it, get migraines - injection, implanon, POP: history of depression worsening on unopposed progesterones (and my poor partner really wore it last time) - Mirena: still get progesterone side effects, but had no reduction in menstrual bleeding - condoms: latex allergy - diaphragm/cap: as above - femedon: OK, we could use this, but it is a pretty major pasion killer - the sound effects are entertaining though!

I know this leaves me with the copper IUD - I have worries about this, because my sister had severe bleeding with it, and I am wanting to get LESS bleeding because I am constantly anaemic and having a period for 10-12 days of 28 is not much fun.

I have tried mefanamic acid and tranexamic acid as well on the medical side of things with no effect.

I am told that they may offer me the filshe clip but I am assuming that will be a separate operation, and I would really rather not have a general anaesthetic if I can avoid it after ending up with an acute depressive episode last time I had one.

Most of all I am frustrated with the whole thing because I know I am labelled as a difficult patient because of the above history, but if any of these things had actually worked and given me 5 day periods with losses of less than 80ml I would have been very, very happy.

Oh, and to add to it, I am also going to have to hope I have a sympathetic gynaecologist because I am nulparous and 38 years old - I've known I don't want to have kids for about 8 years now - but it has taken 2 years to get this referral because my GP keeps thinking that my biological clock will catch up with me.

My partner is fully supportive of my wish for permanent sterilisation, we are not having kids together in part because of his dodgy genetic history.
