ESTRACECREAM?: Weight GainFrom: truluvcats (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 27 Oct 2008 01:39:00 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I just wrote about Estrace cream & thought I'd address this topic in another post. I'm 58 and postmenopausal 8 years. I used to be very active until I got a back injury and I exercised all my life until then. Plus I had a terrible diet because of diagnosis of hiatal hernia (acid reflux) and I ate a lot of ice cream. Not I'm on more of a healthy and non-fattening diet,, and beginning to exercise again. Alot of my clothes don't fit me. I went from a size 8 to a size 12 & would like to lose 25 lbs. or so. I'm a bit too voluptuous but not obese. Question is, am I fighting a losing battle? My weight has mainly gone to my waist and tummy, altho I've never had a flat tummy. But now, I have like this little pouch of fat that I can't stand looking at or anyone else for that matter. It's gone down a little since I've been eating better but is this something that just won't go away no matter what because of being postmenopausal. I also have large, full breasts, and wish I could get a breast reduction but I want to lose as much weight as I can before making any decisions through diet/exercise. My Dr. just precribed me estrace cream (a low dose) for vaginal dryness, etc. I've never taken hormones and even tho it's local, I fear what other side effects it will have on my body. Isn't it estrogen that helps you to gain weight? I'm confused. Is there a topical cream that's not hormonal that would reduce vaginal dryness. I feel it's because I haven't had intercourse for quite a while because of circumstances and non-use made a speculum feel like a knife. The Dr.could not complete the exam. My ex- is coming for a visit in a little while and we may or may not get together. I fear that intercourse will be extremely painful. Is there anything I can use besides estrace. I plan to call my Dr.tomorrow about my hesitation even tho it's 1/8 of an applicator. I also just started taking "Detrol" because of excessive urination (going on a month now). Tests show I'm healthy otherwise. Anyone have any feedback? Thanks
-- T.
