I took Ortho tricyclen for a while, but it did not agree with me (SEVERE wild mood swings, weight gain, etc.) So I switched to another BCP which agrees with me much better. Just from my experience of being on BCPs...they can make mood swings worse (especially in the time right before a period), and can lessen the libido. There are all types of BCPs out there. Maybe she just needs to find the right one... Hope this helps.
