HPV/DYSPLASIA: Laser ablation for cervical dysplasia/path interpretationFrom: Lilly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Sep 2008 19:45:29 -0500 (CDT)
Doctors: Is it possible to perform laser ablation of the entire surface of the cervix? As we all know, hpv can be present without causing cell changes, so as a woman who has been battling hpv for years, I don't feel comfortable only treating the acetowhite portions. Is there a way to give the entire TZ a "face lift" or "chemical peel" so to speak by lasering the entire surface and optimizing conditions for healthy cells to replace the hpv-infected or dysplastic cells? I understand that laser is preferred for lesions covering a large surface area so that is why I am asking, why not laser the entire surface and laser deeper in the acetowhite spots? What does the term "rare cells" mean in a pap smear cytology report? My gyn does not know, and just says to wait for biopsy results. Cytology reads: INTERPRETATION: LSIL ENCOMPASSING: human papillomavirus, mild dysplasia, and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 1. RARE CELLS. Thank you very much.
