GENERAL: is it ok to ask a doctor for a courtesy letter?

I've been seeing a pelvic pain specialist weekly for the past 4 months & I ask you folks about the lupron, but I want to use my annual check up as a way to get a second opinion about what all I'm going through. I thought I could call him & chat with him. (He seems so willing to help when I see him face to face) but when I call his office I can't get past the receptionist & nurses.

Anyway I made this appointment & I'd really like this specialist to send some kind of letter to my local doc

Is that OK to ask for one?

Thanks diane
