OVARIONCANER: Dermoid? Ovarian Cancer

Hello,

Some background: I am 45 years old with no pregnancies. Cancer in my family: father's side, his mother died of ovarian cancer at age 50 and his brother died of pancreatic cancer at age 60.

In 1990 I had a large dermoid on my right ovary. I had surgery and the dermoid and ovary were removed.

In 1997, I had a CT scan for something else and they saw that I had a small dermoid on my left ovary. They tried to remove it laposcropopl but could not because there was too much scar tissue. In each of these instances the way that they determined it was a dermoid was because of the bone/calcification in the cyst that was detected on the scan.

In January of 2008, I was having pain near my left ovary and my Dr. ordered an internal ultrasound. What they found: 3 small fibroids and 2 cysts on my left ovary.

A couple weeks later I had another ultrasound, during a certain time in my cycle to get a better picture. What they found: I still had the 3 small fibroids. Additionally saw that one of the cysts on the ovary was gone but other one was still there.

Six months later I had another ultrasound with the same findings 3 fibroids (same size as 6 months ago) and a left ovarian cyst (same size as six months ago, size 13 x 10 ml). My GYN thinks that the left ovarian cyst is most likely a dermoid. I was wondering what the chances are that this cyst might not be a dermoid and instead be Ovarian Cancer? I see from this website that only 1% dermoids recur. I asked my doctor if I could have a CT scan to see if they could see bone/calcisfication which would then really confirm a diagnosis of a dermoid. My Dr. said that the cyst is too small for the CT to pick-up that information.

If it were Ovarian Cancer, within a six month period, could the size of the cyst stay the same size? How quickly does an ovarian cancer cyst grow in size? I had asked my Dr. if I should have the blood test for Ovarian Cancer, she said that if I wanted it she would order it. She also said that this blood test is not always accurate.

In June of 2008 after having my regular pap smear they found that there were an abundance of cells. My doctor had me come in and she took a sample, I believe it was of my uteral lining. The results came back fine with no cancer cells.

On occasion I do have some slight discomfort near my left ovary and stomach bloating. Fairly reguralry I have some left back pain. About 3 years ago and to date today, I have on an off trouble with constipation.

I would appreciate any thoughts and or information about the above.

Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely Sherry
