CONCURRENTHPV&HSV: Concurrent hrHPV & HSV-2 inevitable cervical cancer?From: Ellen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 19 Jul 2008 11:22:05 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Doctors: I have had HSV-2 for 4 years since 2004 (only found out recently as symptoms suddenly surfaced) and 2 years ago was infected with hrHPV. The hrHPV has persisted for 2 years according to the Digene HC II. Is cervical or other genital cancers in my future inevitable? I recognize that HPV clearance occurs within 12-24 months and I have passed that timeframe. Are there statistics I could look to to determine what my risk is given that I have HSV and hrHPV coinfection? I know it's the highest it can possibly be because HSV and hrHPV together further increase risk of cervical and other genital cancers. I have HSV-2 of the genital tract. What other precautions, other than the common sense lifestyle ones, could I make? I don't smoke, have a great diet and relatively fit, but may have some autoimmune issues going on. I don't know why else my HPV would persist so long. Thanks for any advice. Ellen
