GYNECOLOGIC: Cervical Dysplasia TreatmentFrom: CLS (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 22 Jun 2008 00:37:38 -0500 (CDT)
I was diagnosed with cervical dysplasia, last year, and was told to get LEEP. I asked for the lab report, and the doctor said it wasn't necessary; she was telling me what it said. I asked about my treatment options, and she refused to discuss them. She said LEEP was cost effective and quick. She then used scare tactics to bully me into it. After the LEEP, I had three months of bad complications and still have continued cervical sensitivity. When the new doctor gave me copies of all my lab reports, the original biopsy said I had LGSIL with focal HGSIL in less than two quadrants and cervicitis. LEEP was clearly the wrong treatment option for me. I have spoken to other women who had the same bad experience with one treatment option pushed on them as the only choice. I understand why the inexpensive equipment makes insurance companies like LEEP, and I understand why the live specimen makes LEEP attractive to doctors. But do doctors generally understand every case of dysplasia is different and every woman's body is different, so treatment needs to be customized? I am becoming more and more wary of doctors' judgment, especially after my terrible experience.
