YOUNGWOMEN: pain when using tampons for the first time??From: gibbs (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 23 May 2008 13:54:07 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I would like some professional advice on my daughters. My experience with tampons was the exact opposite of what is going on with my daughters. When I got my period for the very first time, my mother simply showed me how to use a tampon (pads weren't even around so it wasn't an obtion). She showed me how the tampon works, where the "hole" was, and I simply went into the bathroom and did it. I never had any problems. I was probably like 13 or something. Well, both my daughters got their periods this year. They are active in sports, cheerleading, dance, soccer, so of course I would recommend them to learn how to use a tampon. My 14 year old was freaking out, shaking and panicking that she would do this. She wanted to learn, so we got her small smooth tampons, and even lubricant. She could not get it in, and even I tried but didn't want to but she wanted me to. She said it really hurt and couldn't get it in after a certain point. We left it alone, and she just uses pads now. My 12 year old tried as well, and said it really hurt also. She is totally grossed out at the whole thought of it. So, we left it alone, and they will both have to use pads. Question, I never experienced pain like they have described. In my investigation, do you think they might have a septate hymen problem or something? What are the percentages of girls haveing the septate hymen problem. Do a lot of girls have pain when doing this?
