Bacterial Vaginosis is usually diagnosed with a wet mount, not a regular vaginal culture. So, your provider should do a wet prep with KOH and usually the characteristic smell occurs, and the cells can be seen on the web mount, with a microscope. Other vaginal cultures sometimes show BV and also GBS, which in a non pregnant woman usually doesn't cause any cervical issues. If all of these cultures are negative, when you have an active discharge, it is perplexing to say the least. There are only so many types of vaginal discharges. Here is a nice chart comparing the different types of vaginiits. http://www.mjbovo.com/Women/vaginitis.htm http://www.mjbovo.com/Women/vaginitis.htm#types What are the issues of the infection??? Itching, burning, any kinds of tissue damage ? I assume you have looked at soaps you use, and powders and anything else that might cause you some problems. What is the main issue with the discharge ? Share more with us/me about where you have found this information about different types of BV and the characteristics.
