Re: PREGNANCY: pregnant with negative blood testsFrom: D. Ashley Hill (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Sep 2007 16:47:02 -0500 (CDT)
Although (rarely) some women may have a positive serum pregnancy test when they are not pregnant (due to a crossreaction with the antibodies used in the serum testing), this does not sound like your situation. With a bunch of negative urine tests and 2 negative home tests, you either are barely pregnant (say 2 weeks after conceptions), or, most likely, not pregnant. HCG levels tend to rise until about 9 weeks, then they level off and can drop after that. To my knowledge there is no such thing as HCG levels being "too high" to register on a serum test. For example, some women with tumors or abnormal placentas can have HCG levels above 500,000 and those show up on qualitative or quantitative HCG tests. Best wishe, Ashley Hill
