Anita -

I understand your concern; however, just as Pat said there is no telling who passed the virus on to you nor is there anyway of knowing how long you have had it. Generally speaking, if you have had unprotected sex with more than one partner and they have had more than one partner chances are each one of you will test positive for the virus.

It is important to treat the warts, but doing so does not prevent transmission of the virus. Simply said your boyfriend has been exposed to the virus. If he is symptomatic i.e. has warts he needs to be treated. Condoms are a good idea, but regardless of use the warts may or may not come back.

To answer your question, you will not necessarily have an episode of warts each time you have sex with your boyfriend. It is important for him to have any warts he might develop treated as well as yourself.

It is VERY important that you have yearly pap smears as this virus is the leading cause of cervical cancer. If you have an abnormal pap your dr. may recommend more frequent paps. Please be sure to ask for the "Thin Prep" pap. It is more reliable.

Hang in there :-)
