CONTRACEPTION: Doctor could not insert and Mirena IUD todayFrom: Ale (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 4 Sep 2007 15:41:09 -0500 (CDT)
I trust my doctor, I have known him for 15 years, he has given birth to my 11 yo son... so I guess I can not suspect a problem on his side, yet today, I had an appointment to have an IUD inserted and the procedure could not be done. He tried 3 different times, at all times the IUD device bent during insertion. The second and third time he dialated my cervix before attempting insertion again, yet it was as if the cervix closed right back and the IUD could not be placed again. After the third time, my disconfort (more like pain), had gotten too much and I asked him to stop and give up. Is this at all normal? He told me that in 20 years of practice this has never happened to him. Should I try a different doctor? A different IUD? Why is there not a way to dialate the cervix and keep it open?
