Re: ONCOLOGY: i need adviseFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Aug 2007 16:16:14 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Mary: The only way to diagnose what is happening with you is to see a gyn provider. They can do an exam, and also do blood work that might help explain your lack of periods, and your irregular periods. My first hunch would be a condition called PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). A careful history, exam and blood work should help you come to some understanding if this is the issue. It is not healthy for you to go months without a period, especially when not using any kind of birth control. There is usually a cause, and its usually hormonal. But, the only way to determine this is with a work up. If you are not sexually active, a pelvic exam might not be required, but would be helpful to evaluate your uterus to be sure there is nothing concerning. So, my first suggestion is to find a local gyn provider, and make an appointment. Discuss your situation with them, and that will help you learn what is wrong and then what you can do about it. If there are women in your family who skip periods, they too might have this same condition. It can be corrected, and the sooner the better, to preserve your fertility. Let us know how things go. http://home.comcast.net/~creationsunltd/pcos.htm
