CHRONICPAIN: Shock-like pain on left side - ovary?

Off and on I get this pain on the left side of the pelvis that feels like a quick shock, sort of like when someone build up a lot of static electricity in the winter and then when they touch you its like a quick "zap" that really hurts for a second then goes away. This has been happening for several months and each time it seems to happen for a couple of days at a time, occurring throughout those days every few minutes and lasting a few seconds at a time. I have kept track on a calendar, and it isn't really cyclical in nature, in other words, not always around the time of ovulation. I had an ovarian cyst removed on that side a few months ago, but I'm wondering if this means it might have come back. I didn't have this type of shocking pain with the previous cyst, so I can't say for sure this is an indicator. Since the pain does not always coincide with ovulation time or period time, what else could be causing the pain. I have constant, moderately severe pain on that side but I don't always have this shocking pain. Can anyone help tell me what this is? Thanks.
