Re: ACHYLEGS: Severly achy legsFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 27 May 2007 21:57:52 -0500 (CDT)
I would suspect this is a hormonal reaction to your cycle. Some women note dramatic changes in their physical symptoms the week or so before their period, and then it might extend through their period. Irritable bowel, diarrhea or even skin changes. First of all, check your diet. Eliminate the whites...sugars, flour starchy foods the week or so before your period. Sometimes carbs can make things worse. Have you tried Motrin for those days. Perhaps its higher levels of prostaglandins that cause some of these symptoms, and Motrin is an anti-prostaglandin. Another option is to take the birth control pill specifically for this purpose. You didn't mention what birth control you were using, but that is something to consider. And, of course, getting regular exercise helps. I know it might be hard, but its worth a shot. Do not let your doctor make you feel bad. Track your cycles carefully, and put it on paper to show them exactly when you experience these symptoms. If it is cyclic, as you are describing, then it has a lot to do with the hormonal changes that occur after ovulation and before you have your period. http://adam.about.com/reports/000079_2.htm Evaluation and Management of Premenstrual Syndrome and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/406735_print Evaluating and Managing Premenstrual Syndrome http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/408913_print Menstrual Cycle-Related Discomforts http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/513070 Premenstrual Syndrome: Introduction http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/534241
