Re: ONCOLOGY: LEEP ProcedureFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 28 Apr 2007 20:03:03 -0500 (CDT)
There is an association of a 'short cervix' with the LEEP procedure. They actually remove part of the cervix, which heals, but they remove the concerning cells. The purpose of the test is to confirm the diagnosis of what showed up on the pap smear, and remove the concerning tissues. I have had clients that have needed to be on preterm labor precautions with a 'short cervix' as the result of the LEEP. This is somthing to work towards avoiding, and hypnosis has worked quite well. One of my moms got to 41 weeks but had a diagnosed short cervix earlier in the pregnancy. It is a decision and the risks/benefits need to be considered. REmoving the cells is approriate, but there are possible side effects. If not removed, the cells most likely would have progressed....So, sounds like a wise choice...
