INFERTILITY: hypothalamic amenorrheaFrom: goldengirl817 (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Mar 2007 12:39:23 -0500 (CDT)
After many harrowing tests and incorrect diagnoses, my RE has diagnosed me with hypothalamic amenorrhea (for 8 months). My most recent lab values: FSH 6.1 lh 5.1 dheas 273 Testosterone 17 Estradiol less than 20 TSH 0.76 Prolactin 4.1 I am 24, 5'4'', weigh about 122. Before the birth of my son I weighed 135 and after his birth dropped to 108 within 8-10 months after not eating very much. In a desperate attempt to hold my weight down I subsequently became bulimic. Over the past year, I slowly put on 14-15 lbs to restore menses even with small relapses in bulimic behavior (maybe once every few weeks). However, my periods have not returned and my estrogen levels are so dangerously low I'm on the vivelle dot. Do I have any hope of ever getting my period on my own again? My periods were totally normal before they became irregular and stopped. Is it possible I have a brain tumor even with a normal visual field test, neuro exam, and low prolactin levels? I am seeing a fertility specialist who says only injections will work at this piont (clomid failed twice to make me ovulate). I am currently on HRT but my estradiol levels are below 20 (I'm on a patch). Why is this happening?
