Postcoital Bleeding from Episiotomy ScarFrom: Patricia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 1 Oct 2003 10:39:01 -0500 (CDT)
I have been having intermittent postcoital bleeding which I've figured out is definitely from the region of my episiotomy scar(s) (I have had two). My youngest child is 6, and this bleeding has been occuring for the past 1-2 years. Sometimes it is accompanied by pain and burning, sometimes it is painless. I have brought the bleeding to my Gyn's attention and have had recent normal pap smears and ultrasounds (except for fibroids which I have had for 10+ years). Should I ask for a biopsy or colposcopy(SP?) of the area? I am only 40, but I know that vagnial cancer is rare but not unheard of at my age. Is this a common problem for old episiotomy scars to bleed? Thanks, Patty
