Weaning my 15months old + lump near nippleFrom: Leila (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Sep 2003 18:22:56 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, , My 15 months old is taking less milk so therefore, he is waening himself slowly. I noticed a few months ago that when I squeeze my right breast, a lump appears right neare the nipple ( on the areola). It's very soft and moves around. It easier to find when my breast is empty. So I called my OB and she sent me right away for an ultrasound. The radiologist said that he saw a lot of milk ducts and nothing else. He even performed a clinical exam and told me that I simply had a prominent milk duct and that this was not a tumor. So I felt much better. I know that I don't have an infection because I've had them in the past and they are painful and plus a clogged duct is very firm. My OB's office called 2 times in 7 days urging me to come. They want me to do multiple ulstrasounds every X number of weeks. Can an ultrasound be less accurate then a clinical exam? I am 27 with no history of breast cancer in the family ( I know that this is not a reason to think that I am 100% protected). Also, this particular breast always ALWAYS produced more milk that the other one. During the let down , this breast gets VERY lumpy more then the other one. I went 4 months ago for my annual OBGYN examen and everything was normal. Can one duct be just larger than others without meaning that it's cancer? Can weaning cause this situation to appear? . This lump that I am talking about feels exactly like the other lumps in my other breast but it's just larger. Can someone recommend me a good OBGYN in the DC Metro area? Thank you for your assistance, Leila
