Thank you Hi, I've been on the patch for about 6 months but just had to get off of it. I am 34, no children and have been on numerous birth control pills over the years. Unfortunately I didn't have the best luck with the patch. I had weight gain and water gain even with prescribed water pill (up to 8+lbs during PMS). I had quite a lot of breakthrough bleeding which I understand is common. I also had a bout of colitis (irritation in the lining of the colon) and it seemed to worsen every time the patch was applied to my abdomen area. NOTE: It is not known whether the patch is connected to my colitis. I also developed melasma which is darkening spots on the skin on the face (cheeks). I've been on at least 6 different pills over the years and none of them gave me melasma! I have now switched to the Nuvaring (a ring that is inserted once a month). So I am hoping for better luck. The patch isn't the greatest if you are an active athlete or swimmer. While it's supposed to stay on in water, I found it often came loose or got very itchy and irritated during sweat and exercise. It's something you have to evaluate with your doctor.
