It is located above the waist so I don't believe it is related to uterine cramping. The pain usually shows up on CD 3 and gets extremely strong during the overnight hours. I often cannot sleep through them and am up until 4 and 5am. Occassionally laying on my tummy or use of a hot water bottle helps, but much of the time, nothing does. Thinking it is gas pains, I take Ovol but it doesn't help. My tummy feels very bloated as well and for the next 2-3 days after the pains, my insides feel very tender. >> >>My doc. recently diagnosed this as GERD or possibly hiatus hernia (but she didn't really seem sure that this is the issue). Alternatively, the doctor could put you on a proton pump inhibitor medication such as Prilosec or Nexium and if you get better, you likely do have GERD. I have GERD, have read extensively on GERD, and have never come across literature on menstrual periods aggravating GERD. What type of doctor is this? To me she sounds like a general practioner, not a GI specialist or gynecologist. I think if I were you I'd seek another opinion.
