GERD & Menstrual period

Hi,

I suffer from severe stomach pain during my period. It is located above the waist so I don't believe it is related to uterine cramping. The pain usually shows up on CD 3 and gets extremely strong during the overnight hours. I often cannot sleep through them and am up until 4 and 5am. Occassionally laying on my tummy or use of a hot water bottle helps, but much of the time, nothing does. Thinking it is gas pains, I take Ovol but it doesn't help. My tummy feels very bloated as well and for the next 2-3 days after the pains, my insides feel very tender.

My doc. recently diagnosed this as GERD or possibly hiatus hernia (but she didn't really seem sure that this is the issue). My question for the doctors here is: have you heard of menstrual periods aggravating the symptoms of GERD or hiatus hernia? Could this be something else...should I be seeking another opinion?

Thanks
