Uterine Prolapse, Breastfeeding and Future PregnancyFrom: Chris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 31 May 2003 17:58:28 -0500 (CDT)
Hello: I am 39 and had my first child 13 months ago. During delivery, my OB had to utilize a vacuum and forceps to deliver my son; I also sustained a 4th degree tear. About 5 months after delivery I noticed that "things did not look right" in my vaginal opening - there seemed to be something in there I had not seen before. I went to my OB and was told that my bladder had slipped and that this happens sometimes when women have the type of delivery I had. Just this week, things once again seemed wrong (lower back pain, heaviness, and the sensation that my "insides" were falling out). Back to the OB and I was informed that I have mild uterine prolapse. She said that I could have more children, however I should have them sooner rather than later. If I did have more children, I would have to deliver by C-section, and that once I was done with having children I should consider a hysterectomy. My questions are: I still breastfeed my son (though only twice a day) and is there a correlation between low estrogen levels and prolapse that would indicate that stopping breastfeeding would improve the prolapse; my husband and I would like to have another child - are there any risks involved with having another child? Thanks so much for your help! Chris
