lindamarie, we all have our own biological clocks, and we all hit menopause at different times. you might want to ask your mother when she started menopause. my mom started at age 35 with the irregular periods. the entire process took about 10 years from start to finish. she didn't have the symptoms of hot flashes and mood swings until she was near 40, although her periods were irregular for a few years before the other symptoms started. it's good that your doctor wants to do extra tests to rule out any abnormalities, but it may be that you're starting menopause. 42 isn't all that early for it to start. good luck to you, and i hope you're well.
