Re: [Birth Control] BIRTH CONTROL QUESTION (MAY 29 2003)From: H (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 May 2003 18:56:11 -0500 (CDT)
The BC pills with higher estrogen doses are more likely to cause side effects (nausea, bloating, etc.) in some women, and those with lower doses often have milder side effects, so lower dose pills are usually preferred. However, the lower dose pills (like Mircette) don't always control the bleeding cycle very well. They sometimes cause midcycle spotting or bleeding, or no bleeding during the "period week". Low dose pills are just as effective as high dose pills in preventing pregnancy. Every woman's body is different, so you may have to try a couple of different pills before you find one that is the best dose for you. The only exception I know of is that some women who are taking certain epilepsy medications (maybe other meds as well?) may require a higher dose to be effective.
