I am 33 years old and have had normal periods all my life. I took Ortho Tri-Cyclen for 4 years and switched to Aviane in December 2001. I have had no side effects. However, since this November (11/02) my periods have become progressively shorter (now about 3 days when they were previously up to 7 days) & more frighteningly, almost all the blood is brown. The flow is much less too. My last pap (1/03) was "within normal limits" according to my GYN. I also have had my thyroid checked and both TSH & free T4 are normal. CBC, liver function tests and complete metabolic panel were also normal. Please help as I am terrified. What could be causing this ? Is it the Aviane ? Keep in mind I had been taking it for almost a year without these symptoms. What additional tests would you recommend I ask for to rule out anything serious ? Do I need to see an endocrinologist ? Lastly, do you think this would ever impair my fertility ? I currently have no kids, but want them in the future. I know these questions should be addressed by my GYN, but he seems completely unconcerned. Thank you so much !!!
