luteal phase/gas pains -- is this a symptom of something?!?!From: cathy:- (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Mar 2003 00:00:30 -0600 (CST)
About 6 months ago I started getting terrible gas pains. At first I thought I was having a heart attack, but I have no shortness of breath and the pain goes away if I get upright and let out a couple of good belches. (Sorry, TMI :-). The pain is usually centered either on the left side under my shoulder blade, or on the right above my breast radiating into my armpit. For the last 3 months I have been keeping meticulous records of everything I've eaten trying to figure out what food is doing this to me. But every food I've eaten before these attacks I've eaten at other times without an attack. I just realized though what is the thread that links all of the attacks. They start each month at the same time I start mittelschmertz, and last 2-1/2 weeks until my period starts tapering off. This is so utterly STRANGE!!! Is gas like this a symptom of some gynecologic thing? Should I be worried about this? (I'm 40, still ovulating quite regularly although my periods are getting a bit heavier and the mittelschmertz a bit worse. I had one c-section and have pelvic adhesions, so I have lots of abdominal discomfort in general, too.)
