[Birth Control] Birth Control Pills Expiration Dates

My doctor gave me a sample of Ortho-Cept Birth control pills and I have been taking them. The thing is I just noticed the expiration date on the pack I am taking says Dec. 2002, and the other pack says July 2002. Do these expiration dates mean anything? Is it okay to rely on these pills for now while I'm up at college and then get a prescription when the samples are gone or should I go to the doctor on campus and try to get a full prescription now?
