Re: usa vs the rest of the worldFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 30 Nov 2002 16:12:57 -0800 (PST)
Sweeptest, Would you pls break up your messages in to paragraphs as this one was kind of hard to read. While it's true that the ACS and ACOG don't agree with each other I agree with what ACOG (FACOG is a dr that is a fellow of the organization) has said b/c of the potential that anything can go wrong during a period of 3 years. Also, the reason that a national healthcare system is shut down here in the U.S. as far as the suggestion is b/c of problems in countries like the UK and Canada where the waiting lists are so long for procedures. What is one supposed to do during a period of 3 to 6 months while they wait for surgery let's say like in the case of a woman with Endometriosis? In those countries laparoscopic surgery is not considered to be emergency surgery. Also, we don't know how many of the women there in Europe and Asia may not have some kind of cancer growing during the time that they are waiting for the next pap smears to pick up the possible cancer and then it end up being too late to treat it. The reason for the lawsuits also is b/c if someone in this country dies and they didn't have to the families may sue for wrongful death. So drs, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies, and ACOG are trying to prevent women dying from cancers that could have been caught and treated early on. And of course most importantly of all protect themselves from legal problems that may take years to resolve. No healthcare system whether here in the U.S. or other parts of the world are the most perfect. But I'm very grateful for the guideline set out by ACOG in part b/c I have a number of female problems, the earlier I can get these problems treated, especially if I should have cancer, the better. That's just how I feel. ===== Kristy :) http://www.geocities.com/sokokl/kristyspersonalpage.html I am a Medical Secretary who does a lot of learning from reading on the Net, books, my dr(s), as well as sharing my own personal experiences.
