High DHEAS...Cushings or PCOS???From: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 30 Nov 2002 17:00:17 -0600 (CST)
Recently I was diagnosed with PCOS by my PCP. Because I refused hormone treatment for this (bad experiences with BCP), I was sent to see a Endocrinologist. He conformed the dianosis, wrote me a script for metformin (500mgx2) , and sent me to the lab for blood tests. My fasting glucose was 90 (normal), TSH was 4.0 (boardline high), all hormones were normal except testosterone which was high, and my DHEAS levels were high. My DHEAS levels were high enough for the endo to order a abdominal CT scan, which showed no signs of adrenal masses. Should I be concerned that my DHEAS levels were high enough to cause my endo to look for adrenal tumors? Should I seek a second opinion on my PCOS diagnosis? I go back to the endo in January. Thank you in advance for any advice.
