Several years ago I had a hysterectomy due to fibroids. I occasionally had frightening, severe, piercing pain in the rectal area. It was either due to degenerating fibroids or pressure from the fibroids on nearby areas. I also had some bladder problems due to fibroids, but no problems with my periods. After the surgery I never had these symptoms again. It's always a good idea to get a second opinion when you're told you need any type of surgery, including hysterectomy.
