pregnancy and laparoscopy--Urgent --From: Alison (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Sep 2002 16:31:37 -0500 (CDT)
I am scheduled for a laparoscopy/hysteroscopy next thursday (was supposed to get d and c but now that I had my period last week, don't need it anymore). I recently developed an allergy to nonoxynol 9, and can no longer use spermicide. the pill makes me ill also, and for religious reasons can not use the other meathods of control such as condoms and do not like IUD. so we are forgoing birth control. I am worried that I may fall pregnant before my surgery and wouldn't know it as it would be too soon for a test. how soon after conception takes place would a test detect a pregnancy? (it would be a welcome and wanted baby). chances are I won't fall pregnant as I am having some pelvic pain almost since the birth of my daugther 4 months ago.. it may even be interstitial cystitis causing it (I am scheduled for a cystocope and water distention thing tomorrow, so I will know tomorrow and if it is that will cancel my surgery). if it isn't that, and I need the surgery and am pregnant but not aware of it, will the laparoscopy and hysteroscopy endanger a pregnancy? will my ob/gyn do it and realize I am pregnant by what he sees and then not proceed? If I am pregnant and don't know it and they do a hysteroscopy, would my doc see that I am pregnant and view it directly? I do not want to cause a miscarriage by these procedures. Thank you very much.
