Anesthetist ?? Anesthesiologist ?? Before 03 Sep 2002From: Curious (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 31 Aug 2002 17:37:09 -0500 (CDT)
I am terrified of sedation and anesthesia. I'm not afraid of dying or of not waking up. I'm terrified of having no control of what is being done to me, no say in any decisions, and not being able to remember what was done or occurred. I've been scheduled for a colonoscopy under anesthesia w/diprivan the day after labor day. I can't go thru with it. I called my gastro's office to cancel it but her office was closed Friday and she is unavailable. I've tried and tried to get a hold of the anesthetist/anesthesiologist prior to this procedure. The hospital tells me they have no way of knowing who will be admnistering the anesthesia as anesthesia is not usually utilized for colonoscopy and I have to get that information from my gastro. Which I can't do until Tuesday, the day it is scheduled for. There seems to be some confusion on whether there will be an anesthetist or an anesthesiologist adminsitering the diprovan for the colonoscopy. What is the difference between an anesthetist and an anesthesiologist? Maybe I've been trying to locate the wrong type of professional and that is why the hospital has no way of knowing until the day of the procedure? I am not going to have anesthesia when I don't have a chance to talk to the anesthesiologist/anesthetist until 10 minutes before the colonoscopy so I just am not going to the hospital Tuesday. I'll probably have to find a new gastroenterologist because of this but I didn't pick the day after a holiday weekend for this.
