Shannon,

Keep in mind that the recent hype you heard about does NOT pertain to premarin. The HRT study only looked at women on Prempro (estrogen and progesterone). The study on estrogen only is continuing. However, the National Cancer Institute did disclose an observational analysis that indicated estrogen might increase risk for breat cancer.

The decision to take HRT depends on your health history and whether you have menopausal symptoms. Not everyone gets hot flashes and night sweats. One option you might discuss with your doctor is lowering your dose of Premarin and then eventually tapering off. You might be at higher risk for osteoprosis but if there's no family history this may not be a concern. There are drugs besides hormones to treat this, and a healthy diet and exercise help.
