4 to 5 month uterus/ 53 years old/ post menopausalFrom: Angie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 26 May 2002 21:05:35 -0500 (CDT)
I went to my Dr. in Feb, due to some mild spotting. I was on prempro, and had been for about 5 years. My Dr. gave me a complete physical, and changed my hormones, to decrease the amount of estrogen. the spotting continued (light spotting) so I returned to the Dr. this month for an Ultra sound, both reg/ and internal, and an endo biopsy. She told me that my uterus is the size of a 4 to 5 month pregnant woman, and that I have to have an immediate hysterectomy. She said they will not know if it is cancerous, until she gets it out, because it is so big. She went on to tell me, the surgery will be very "rough" due to the size of the uterus, and that it will be very difficult to get out. She continued by saying I would have a very long incision, because she would not beable to get it out with a hairline incision. She said the recovery will be long and hard, due to the difficulty of the surgery. She thought I would incounter alot of bleeding, also. She has ordered a follow up ultra sound, and the diagnosis for that request is 18 plus week fibroid uterus. I am amazed that my uterus has grown so fast, since Feb. I am looking for any advise, or information, regarding how difficult this type of surgery is? Is recovery really that bleak, and difficult, with a big uterus? My Dr. is young, and has only been in practice for about 5 years, but she was very alarming, and continued to talk about how difficult the surgery was going to be. Please give me any input, or experience that you have had in dealing with this. Thank-you very much.
