Re: early and long spotting time before period bleeding. From: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 8 May 2002 09:48:52 -0500 (CDT)
Sara I have had a similar problem for the last 5 years. I begin spotting for 4-5 days before my real period begins, sometimes its just light staining and other times its red but only spots. Two months ago, I had some bloodwork done as well as an endometrial biopsy. Both those tests showed that my uterine lining is not progressing the way it should due to low progesterone. Last month was my first cycle to be on a progesterone supplement called Prometrium (starting on cd 14 until my heavy flow comes) Unfortunately the progesteone didn't do anything for me, I still had the spotting before my period. I'm trying it again this month to see if there are any changes. My doctor said that if I am to become pregnant I should keep taking the progesterone because it would help support the pregnancy. I know I ovulated this month because I had a positive OPK on cd 14 as well. I don't know if this will help you or not, but I wish you well!
